A Special Offences Court, sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos, has convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment a fake Army General, Bolarinwa Abiodun whose real name is Hassan Ayinde.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted and sentenced the convict without any option of a fine.

He was convicted following a plea bargain at the proceedings where he admitted to using the name of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo to defraud a businessman Bamidele Olusegun Safiriyu to the tune of 270 million Naira.

The EFCC on January 13, 2022, said it had arrested Hassan Ayinde, who was allegedly posing as an Army General.

The National Youth Service Corps has sanctioned 131 corps members of the 2021 Batch B in seven states over misconduct.

While some of the corps members will repeat their mandatory one year service, others got an extension of service year as punishment.

The states include Ekiti, Gombe, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Anambra and Bauchi.

In Ekiti State, the NYSC asked 11 corps members posted to repeat their mandatory service year for absconding from their places of primary assignment.

NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Mary Chikezie, said that seven other corps members in the state were punished with extension of service year.

Chikezie, who spoke in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, during the Passing-Out Parade of the 2021 Batch B corps members, said six of the 1,416 corps members for the batch, were rewarded for their outstanding performances in touching positively the lives of their host communities.

“Seven corps members have been found wanting and have been sanctioned with extension of service year. Eleven corps members will be remobilized for absconding,” she said.

She listed those honoured as Anuoluwa Balogun, Tom Udoudo, Dr Racheal Bob-Yellowe, Joachim Kolawole, David Onaolapo and Goodness Stephen.

July 8, 2022 Federal High Court, Abuja, has disqualified the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Delta State, Sherif Oborevwori, from contesting the 2023 elections.

Federal High Court, Abuja, has disqualified the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in Delta State, Sherif Oborevwori, from contesting the 2023 elections.

In a ruling by Justice Taiwo, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court held that Oborevwori lacked the legal competence to participate in the election.

The suit was filed by fellow contestant, David Edevbie, who had approached the court following his grievance with the process that produced Oborevwori.

He held that the PDP violated both its constitution and the electoral guidelines, during its state congress that produced Oborevwori as its flag bearer for the governorship election.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo agreed with the plaintiff that Oborevwori ought not to be the candidate of the PDP for allegedly supplying false and forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The judge subsequently directed INEC and the PDP to recognize the plaintiff, David Edevbie, as the candidate.

While Oborevwori is a godson to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Edevbie is a godson to former Governor James Ibori.

Meanwhile, Oborevwori has said he will appeal the judgment.
