Reps Embark On Long Holiday Till September

Amid reports of threats by terrorists to attack some major cities in the country, the House of Reps has adjourned till September 20th to observe its annual long holiday.

The lawmakers adjourned the House on Wednesday after the plenary.

It would be recalled that the Federal Capital Territory has witnessed a hike in attacks as terrorists attacked Kuje Prison, setting criminals and terrorists free.

Also, the government announced the shutdown of federal government colleges in the FCT.

Speaking after the announcement of the adjournment, the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu urged his colleagues to stay away from Abuja and go back to their constituencies, saying the FCT is no longer safe.

“I want to beg members, Abuja is no longer safe, please, if possible, go back to your constituency. The place is so insecure,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase cautioned his colleague from making such a comment, noting that it could discourage investors from coming to Nigeria.

“I believe the minority leader, maybe was putting some jokes but I do not believe that it was a joke on the security in the lives and property of the people and by the grace of God Abuja is going to be secured.

“I do not think we should scare investors who are coming into the country, I do not believe that we should scare people who could come to add value to us,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Wase, however cautioned his colleague from making such a comment, noting that it could discourage investors from coming to Nigeria.

Chelsea Interested In Signing Wesley Fofana From Leicester City

The French center-back, Wesley Fofana signed a two-year contract extension with Leicester in March which will keep him at the club until 2027.

Chelsea are interested in signing Wesley Fofana from Leicester City.

Chelsea have signed Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and attempted to sign Nathan Ake from Manchester City and Jules Kounde from Sevilla to bolster their defense following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

When asked at the Universal Orlando Resort, if he has been annoyed by the Spanish giants' pursuit of Azpilicueta, Tuchel replied: "Maybe a little bit."

Asked about the Spaniard's future, Tuchel said: "It's a tough question because I am not sure if I want to give Azpi what he wants.

"At some point it is about what we want. I just made the comparison about how much we fought for Koulibaly, who is a national team player and roughly the same age.

"He is a hugely important player for Napoli but we have a Spanish international who is the captain at Chelsea. I see him maybe at the same level but Barcelona don't see him on that level. So I am not sure if I want to give him what he wants as he is a huge player.

"We don't think so much about other clubs. The focus is on us and what we need. I said that to him and I say it to you that I understand on a personal and a career level. But I am not only in this role to give him what he wants. I am a manager for Chelsea who wants to do what's best for Chelsea.

"He doesn't like it but he understands. It is tough for him because the other club is permanently on him. On September 1 when things calm down, then he can play on his highest level."

Tottenham Sign Middlesbrough Defender Spence

Djed Spence, a defender from Middlesbrough, was acquired by Tottenham on Tuesday in a deal that may have cost up to £20 million ($24 million).

Spence impressed during a loan stint with Championship team Nottingham Forest last season and ultimately signed a five-year deal with Tottenham.

The estimated £12.5 million asking price for the right-back, 21, might increase to £20 million if add-on clauses are met.

Spence gained notoriety after Forest last season achieved promotion to the Premier League via the second-tier play-offs.

In a season that finished with a win against Huddersfield in the play-off final at Wembley, he made 46 appearances and scored three goals.

Since guiding his team to a top-four finish in the Premier League and qualifying them for the Champions League, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has been on a significant hiring spree.

After Conte made moves for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, and Clement Lenglet, Spence was added.

Spence, a London native, graduated from Fulham's academy before joining Middlesbrough in 2018. A number of managerial changes caused his tenure at the Riverside Stadium to be disrupted.

His short-term move to Forest sparked his career, leading to March England Under-21 recognition and his current dream transfer to Tottenham.
