“I’m A Gentle Man With A Very Rough Edge” – Brymo

I’m A Gentle Man with A Very Rough Edge.

Brymo began, as he shared information about his life and career with the lunchtime OAPS in the Colorful studio interview after a list of Nigerian artists.

Brymo, Nigerian singer, songwriter, stage performer and author, with Joanna Mustapha and Ebuka Ezekiel talked about why he had to abandon the “musicianship”, meaning relationships with musicians apart from personal relationships,  for his sonic artistry and how he thinks it made him stand out from other artists, hence, the result and many awards.

“Being a sonic artist makes it easier to explain what I do, especially cause of the constant shifting from Yoruba, pidgin, English and concepts all the time”

He believes tagging his music "sonic artistry" gives him a better edge to freely create in an industry where there is variety of genre like rock, afrobeat, highlife and more.

The Son of a Kapenta album singer, appreciates his background, claiming that he could have turned out to be anything as low as a bus conductor to being a fraudster in the Okokomaiko setting, but his music singled him out.

Brymo recently returned with a new album titled, Theta! It carries the powerful vocals of Brymo with which he communicates his deep thoughts and that touches on didactic, cultural, poetic, spiritual, and emotional subjects.

What do we have to say about Brymo? He is one of the realest, open and intelligent artists in Nigeria.

August 25, 2022 BREAKING: Police Commission Union Declares Indefinite Strike

BREAKING: Police Commission Union Declares Indefinite Strike

Due to a violation of an agreement, the Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission has sent the commission's management a notice of an upcoming indefinite strike.

The strike, according to the union, will start on Monday, August 29, 2022.

In a chat with our correspondent on Thursday, Mr. Adoyi Adoyi, the chairman of the Joint Service Union, PSC branch, revealed this.

The warning is being issued amid a dispute about who should be in charge of hiring, promoting, and appointing police officers and constables between commission employees, the commission's chairman, Mr. Musiliu Smith, and the inspector general of police, Usman Baba.

He stated that the PSC's constitutional role had been overridden by the IGP and other police chiefs acting in collusion with the PSC chairman.

Adoyi continued by alleging that the IGP has taken it upon himself to carry out PSC duties in flagrant violation of the Nigerian constitution, an Appeal Court ruling, and the PSC's authorities.

Adoyi declared, "We're starting an indefinite strike on Monday, August 29, to express our displeasure with the way the PSC is being handled by the commission's chairman and the IGO Usman Baba's flagrant disdain for the law, the constitution, and the PSC.

“The duties of the PSC are spelt out in the constitution, but the IGP has disregarded all of that, and has taken over the duties of the commission. He appoints and promotes at will as opposed to what is stated in the constitution.

“According to the constitution, the appointment, promotion, and recruitment of police officers and constables are the prerogative of the PSC, not the IGP.”

CBN Raises Interest Rate On Savings Deposit To 30% Of MPR

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed deposit money banks in Nigeria to pay savings deposit account holders an interest of 30 per cent of the current 14% Monetary Policy Rate (MPR).

This means the apex bank has now reverted to what it was in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic era.

This was contained in a circular by the apex bank, titled “Review of Interest Rate on Savings Deposits” and signed by Haruna B. Mustafa, Director of Banking Supervision.

Savings deposit rates are the interest rates that accrue to customers for keeping their money with the banks.

The circular recalled that as part of the efforts to ameliorate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the CBN reduced the minimum interest rates payable on local currency savings deposits from 30% to 10% of the MPR in order to stimulate growth in the larger economy following the economic-slowdown occasioned by the pandemic.

However, experts think the increase in the interest would not make significant changes.

Wolves Sign Portugal Midfielder For Club Record £38m Fee

Wolves have signed Sporting Lisbon and Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes for a club record €45m (£38m) fee on a five-year contract.

Nunes has been on the radar of many leading clubs in Europe.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, joined Sporting in 2019 and made 101 appearances for the club, scoring eight times

Nunes has eight caps for Portugal and is expected to be part of their squad for this year's World Cup in Qatar.

His breakthrough in Lisbon came in the 2020-21 season when he helped Sporting lift their first Portuguese league title in 19 years.

The transfer fee for Nunes surpasses the £35.6m Wolves paid for forward Fabio Silva in 2020.

Nunes told the club's website he was impressed with manager Bruno Lage's desire to bring him to Molineux and encouraged to move by "some of my team-mates because I play with them for the national team".

"The coach really wanted me, and I wanted to play in the Premier League. It's the right next step for me and I'm very happy to be here," he added.

Wolves have started the new top-flight season with a defeat 2-1 by Leeds United at Elland Road and a goalless draw at home with Fulham.

Lage's side face Tottenham away on Saturday with a 12:30 BST kick-off.
