CBN To Redesign 200, 300 & 1000 Naira Notes, To Begin Circulation Dec 15

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a redesign of the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this during a special press briefing in Abuja, noting that the new design will come into effect from December 15, 2022.

Emefiele said that the action was taken in order to take control of the currency in circulation, advising Nigerians to take old notes to banks for the new notes.

Reacting to this development, the Chief Executive Officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Dr Muda Yusuf said that is the least of the problems of Nigeria’ economy right now.

Federal Government Loses Application To Transfer Suit Against Proscribed Ipob Leader, Nnamdi Kanu To Abuja

The Federal Government has lost its bid to transfer the suit of the extraordinary rendition of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Ipob Nnamdi Kanu, from Umuahia to Abuja.

The Federal High Court in Umuahia, Abia State, insisted that it has the jurisdiction to hear and determine the suit.

This was disclosed by Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a tweet noting that the matter was still ongoing.

The Special Counsel was challenging Kanu’s abduction and extraordinary rendition from Kenya.

He is, among other things, praying the court to order his return to Kenya, where he was abducted or UK, his country of abode.

INEC Sanctions 23 Of Its Workers For Engaging In ‘Fictitious Registrations’ During CVR Exercise

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has commenced disciplinary action against 23 of its officers for their involvement in fictitious Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR).

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, while speaking at the Third Quarterly Meeting with political parties for the year 2022 held at the INEC Conference Room in Abuja, also said 76.5 percent of newly registered voters are young people.

He said the Commission deployed thousands of diligent staff for the CVR exercise.

Professor Mahmood assured that INEC shall continue to protect the integrity of the voters’ register, saying it is pivotal to credible elections, just as it is a national asset and easily the largest database of citizens in Africa and one of the largest in the world.

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom Asks PDP’s Atiku To Apologize To Him For Outburst Or Will Lose The State’s Votes

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has called on the presidential candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), ATIKU ABUBAKAR, to apologise to him and people of the state over his outburst against him and the people.

The governor also told Atiku not to think that Fulanis alone could make him the president.

Ortom Stated this when he addressed youths from Jemgbagh axis which comprises Gboko, Buruku and Tarka local government areas who protested in solidarity with him.

The former vice president drew the ire of the governor during the interactive forum organised by the Arewa Consultative Forum in Kaduna recently when he (Atiku) accused Ortom of profiling Fulanis.

Atiku had also in his condolence message said, “When our people are well integrated into communities where they live, work, pay taxes and raise their children, they’d be obligated to reciprocate the love and acceptance”.
