Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike Dares PDP Chairman, Ayu To Stop Any Candidate From Contesting Elections

Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike has said the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Iyorchia Ayu does not have the power to stop any member of the party from contesting elections.

Governor Wike said this in response to a recent comment made by Ayu in Gboko, Benue state.

While addressing his supporters on Friday, Ayu had said he could have stopped the political ambitions of those calling for his resignation.

Some party members demanding Ayu’s resignation are seeking elective offices in the 2023 general election.

Reacting on Sunday, Wike challenged Ayu to stop any party member from contesting in the 2023 elections, describing him as ungrateful.

South-East Governors Say They Believe Political Solution Is Still Possible In Case Of Proscribed IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu

Governors of the South-East Geo-Political zone have agreed to set up a 24-hour joint patrol in all major highways within the South-East, especially, during the Christmas season.

Ebonyi State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Dave Umahi, said this after a closed-door meeting at the Government House, Enugu.

The governors raised the alarm over the spate of kidnappings and wanton killings in the zone and called on the federal government to come to their aid.

The host governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and that of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu were in attendance. While the governors of Imo and Anambra were represented by their deputies.

The governors also insisted on a “political solution” as a possibility on the charges filed against leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

President Buhari Summons Security Chiefs To Emergency Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to hold an emergency meeting with security chiefs in Abuja.

In a statement, presidential media aide, Garba Shehu said the meeting is “to further review and strengthen security network in the country.

The President was initially scheduled to commission the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) new Technology and Innovation Complex, but the event will now hold at a later date.

The statement said the president will receive briefs from the security chiefs, and interject on areas that need more attention.

The meeting is coming amid terror alerts of impending attacks on the Nigerian capital, which led to panic with the US and UK advising their citizens to leave Abuja.

But in the wake of the development, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba insisted that the nation’s capital is safe, and dismissing any threats of attacks.

How FG Is Tackling Growing Inflation — Finance Minister, Ahmed

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, has disclosed that mechanisms have been put in place to tackle the growing inflation in Nigeria.

Ahmed, who made the disclosure while appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance for the 2023 budget defense, pointed out that rising price of diesel is affecting food prices.
