Neymar Stretchered Off In Psg Defeat

Paris St-Germain forward Neymar was carried off on a stretcher with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury during his side’s defeat by Lyon.

The Brazilian was pictured screaming in agony and clutching his ankle after suffering the injury in stoppage time.

It followed a poor challenge from Thiago Mendes, who was sent off.

Tino Kadewere scored the only goal of the game as PSG dropped to third in the table, one point behind leaders Lille and second-placed Lyon.

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel said Neymar would have tests to establish how serious the injury was.

Neymar, 28, joined PSG for a world record fee of 222m euros (£200m) from Barcelona in August 2017.

He has helped the club win three successive Ligue 1 titles as well as reach last season’s Champions League final.

Xhaka Sent Off As Arsenal Fall To Fourth Straight Pl Defeat

Granit Xhaka was dismissed for violent conduct as a desperately poor Arsenal side were jeered off by their own supporters after being stunned by Premier League strugglers Burnley.

Defeat meant Mikel Arteta’s side have now lost four straight league games at home for the first time in 61 years.

Gunners skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s wretched run of form continued as he failed to score at the right end – and headed an own goal at the other end.

Burnley’s winner came after Xhaka was dismissed on 58 minutes for grabbing the throat of Clarets midfielder Ashley Westwood – the Swiss midfielder given a red card after referee Graham Scott reviewed the incident on the pitch-side monitor.

The Gunners had plenty of attempts at goal but most of them were dealt with comfortably by Nick Pope, a superb reflex save to keep out Alexandre Lacazette’s low strike aside.

Burnley’s victory lifts them out of the relegation zone, a point clear of Fulham, while Arsenal stay in a lowly 15th place.

BOXING
WBO, WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has boasted his fight against Bulgarian challenger Kubrat Pulev will end with the *last man standing*, ahead of their title bout at the Wembley Arena in London this weekend.

The Briton has not fought in 12 months, since he reclaimed his titles in a rematch victory over Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia and he is optimistic of coming out on tops when the pair take to the squared ropes on Saturday.
Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua has only lost once in his professional career to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, while Pulev has also lost once in his career to Vladimir Klitschko in 2014.

Organized Labour Warns State Governments Against Borrowing From Pensions Fund

Organised Labour has rejected a bid by governors to borrow from the N17 trillion pension funds.

The Nigeria Labour Congress kicked against a similar proposal by Works and Housing Minister BABATUNDE FASHOLA to deploy workers’ retirement benefits being managed by Pension Fund Administrators in the development of infrastructure.

The NLC vowed to mobilise workers nationwide to protest any move to borrow from the money, saying it was the retirement benefit of workers.

NLC President AYUBA WABBA spoke on the rejection at the 47th National Executive Council meeting of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria in Abuja.

The Nigerian Governors’ Forum had endorsed two proposals to borrow N17 trillion from two sources for infrastructural development.

According to WABBA, governors have no constitutional authority over the money which was largely made up of contributory funds MON from federal and private sector workers.
