Atleast 100 civilians killed by Boko Haram Sect on rice farm in Borno State -UN

There are strong indications that over hundred people may have been killed when Boko Haram terrorists invaded a rice farm in Zabarmari area of Borno State over the weekend.

Initial report says 43 farmers were killed by suspected members of the Boko Haram while harvesting their crops on Saturday at a rice field at Koshobe, in Borno state.

However, the United Nations shedding more light on the attack said 110 civilians were killed by Boko Haram sect in the incident.

The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. EDWARD KALLON, who disclosed this, also said, many other persons were  injured and still missing in the deadly attack by the terrorist group.

Also, the Amnesty International in a tweet disclosed that 16 of the victims were internally displaced persons recently relocated to their homes.

While speaking on a monitored programme, the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General, JOHN ENECHE said those killed remain 43 but that the casualty figure could rise.

EFCC re-arraigns Babachir Lawal for alleged fraudulent N544M grass-cutting contract.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will today re-arraign a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, BABACHIR LAWAL, and six others, for an alleged fraudulent N544m grass-cutting contract.

This will be the second re-arraignment of the defendants, who were first arraigned before the late Justice JUDE OKEKE of the FCT High Court, Maitama, on February 13, 2019.

BABACHIR LAWAL, along with his younger brother, HAMIDU LAWAL, SULEIMAN ABUBAKAR, APEH MONDAY and two companies had pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to them before Justice OKEKE.

The prosecution was to open its case on March 18, 2019, when they announced that they had amended the 10 counts, bordering on fraud, diversion of over N544m and criminal conspiracy.

Following the judge’s demise, the case was re-assigned to Justice CHARLES AGBAZA of the Jabi Division of the FCT High Court, where the trial will have to start afresh.

Blackout as Nation’s power grid collapses

The nation’s power grid has collapsed again, plunging parts of the country into a total blackout for hours.

Two of the power distribution companies in the country, Kaduna Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company, on Sunday afternoon announced the national grid collapse.

Kaduna Electric, in a message to its customers via its Twitter handle, regretted the loss of power supply in their franchise – Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states as a result of the collapse of the national grid.

The collapse occurred on Sunday morning.

Kaduna Electric say supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is back up.

Former Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop Dies age 42

Former Senegal, Fulham and Portsmouth midfielder PAPA BOUBA DIOP has died aged 42.

DIOP made 129 appearances in the Premier League and also had spells in England with West Ham United and Birmingham City.

He played for Senegal at the 2002 World Cup, scoring the winner in the tournament’s opening game as his country beat France 1-0.

He also featured at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, including when Senegal were runners-up in 2002.
