President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has sounded a strong note of warning that his government will deal decisively with “any act of hooliganism hiding behind peaceful protests.”
He said although his administration believed in the rights of citizens to embark on peaceful protests, such must be done responsibly.
The President issued this strong warning while virtually declaring open the Chief of Army Staff’s Annual Conference 2020 from the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He regretted the violence that trailed the last EndSARS protests hijacked by hoodlums which resulted in loss of lives and property in across the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, later released a statement quoting BUHARI as describing 2020 as a very challenging year.
Christmas is around the corner and everyone will be home to celebrate with their families and loved ones. Here are top 5 evergreen recommeded movies to watch during the holiday period:
Home Alone
Even though Home Alone didn’t turn out to be the greatest thing to happen to Macaulay Culkin, we feel rather fond of this classic Christmas hit. For those who haven’t yet watched it (where have you been though?) Home alone is a 1990 ‧ Comedy/Family which lasts for 1hour 43minutes.
Here’s a quick summary: eight-year-old Kevin McCallister gets forgotten by his family who jet off to Paris without him. Whilst his family try desperately to get back to America, burglars try to break into poor Kevin’s home. However, through much hilarity, Kevin skilfully defends his home with the aid of a tarantula and some artfully crafted cardboard cut-outs.
Film fact: The picture Kevin finds of Buzz’s girlfriend whilst he raids his big brother’s room was actually a boy wearing a wig. The director felt it would be too harsh to use a real girl for this scene.
The Princess Switch and The Princess Swith 2: Switched again
Long story short, Hudgens plays double duty as a princess and a normal Chicago baker who’d given up on love. And it was a hit. The film ushered in the Netflix Original Christmas Movie Cinematic Universe, in which Hudgens met a Christmas knight and also returned for a Princess Switch sequel.
This is yet a recent movie but an intresting one. You should check it out.
The App that stole Christmas
A tech entrepreneur’s Christmas shopping app is a smashing success, but he starts to believe his invention might be ruining the holiday spirit.
This is also a recent movie but worth the watch reason being that the movie practically portrays 21st century and how technology comes to play in our everyday lives.
Jack Frost
Michael Keaton gets a Christmas movie, too. He plays a man literally named Jack Frost, who lived his life as a bitter, aging rocker and meets a tragic end in a car accident on Christmas Day. A year later, his son plays a song on his old harmonica and brings him back to life; this time as a snowman. Bad special effects might make this one more of a horror film than a heartwarming Christmas movie, but nonetheless, here it is.
Snow Man
Harry Hole is investigating the disappearance of a woman on the first snow of winter when he realises that the case may be related to a Snowman. Watch and enjoy.
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has likened the humiliating defeat suffered by the Peoples Democratic Party in the bye-elections conducted over the weekend as a comic relief from the recent pressure and challenges.
The state chairman of the PDP, ADEDEJI DOHERTY had in a statement described the election as a charade, accusing INEC of allocating votes to the APC.
He however said that relevant lessons have been learnt assuring that Lagos will be rescued from APC and its leadership, that have held down the State for over twenty years.
But in his reaction, the spokesman of the ruling APC, SEYE OLADEJO said it was a big surprise that the state chairman of the PDP could complain about the results of the elections that he was too busy to campaign for his candidates.
While they were busy conducting fake personal opinion polls, the ruling APC was reaching out to the voters with life changing programs, manifestos and policies that are relevant to the challenges of the day.
INEC on Sunday morning declared the candidates of the APC in the Lagos East Senatorial District and Kosofe Constituency two bye-elections, TOKUNBO ABIRU and FEMI SAHEED winners of the exercise.
The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project has asked President BUHARI to order the Director-General of the National Pension Commission to stop the 36 state governors from borrowing N17 trillion from the pension funds for developmental projects.
The governors last week reportedly proposed to borrow about N17 trillion from the pension funds after receiving a brief from the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam NASIR EL-RUFAI, who is the Chairman of the National Economic Council Ad Hoc Committee.
But in a letter signed by SERAP deputy director KOLAWOLE OLUWADARE, the group said the move would be detrimental to the interest of the beneficiaries of the funds, especially given the vulnerability of pension funds to corruption in the country.
