PTF Says One In Five Persons Tested Positive Of Covid-19 Last Week

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Mr. BOSS MUSTAPHA says Nigeria and South Africa have continued to report the highest daily count of COVID-19 on the African continent. 

The PTF Chairman while giving his remarks at the briefing in Abuja noted that one in every five persons tested in Nigeria within the passing week turned out positive.

BOSS MUSTAPHA said South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Algeria, and Kenya now account for 76% of all cases in the African region.

According to him, Nigeria has moved up to the third position in the highest cumulative caseload but remains 2nd for new cases and 5th highest in cumulative deaths in the WHO African region.

Dr. FAISAL SHUAIBU of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency said fund has been released for local production of COVID-19 vaccines.

While speaking on a programme, Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, Dr. OBI ADIGWE said the country has the capacity to produce vaccine to cure the virus.

Association Of Resident Doctors At University Of Ilorin Raises Alarm As 20 Doctors Test Positive For Covid-19 In Three Weeks

At least 20 doctors in Kwara State have become infected with coronavirus within the past three weeks.

President of the Association of Resident Doctors at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Dr. BADMUS HABEEB, who disclosed this in an interview lamented that members of the association are battling with the pandemic “based on the available resources”.

According to him "I must reiterate that this is not the best of times for us, our families and the affected patients".

Dr. BADMUS HABEEB, also lamented that even when the COVID-19 vaccines are made available, the country lacks the capacity to store and administer them.

Nigeria Records 9 New Deaths And 1,398 New Cases Of Coronavirus Within The Last Twenty Four Hours

Despite all measures put in place by the federal government to curb the spread of coronavirus in the second wave, the country has recorded nine new deaths and 1,398 new cases within the last twenty four hours.

With the latest cases, the country’s figure from COVID-19 has risen to 103, 999 out of which 82, 555 cases have been treated and discharged.

Since the outbreak of the virus in February 2020, the country had lost 1,382 people in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The latest 1,398 new cases are reported from 22 states and the FCT with Lagos having the highest of (542), trailed by FCT (131), Oyo (120), Rivers (113), Plateau (111), Kaduna (71), Kwara (71), Akwa Ibom (34), Sokoto (31), Benue (28), Ogun (27).

Other states with new infections are: Kano (26), Kebbi (17), Osun (12), Nasarawa (11), Delta (10), Gombe (10), Bayelsa (9), Borno (9), Edo (8), Ekiti (3), Jigawa (2), and Katsina (2)
