Adunni Ade Opens Up On Being Blacklisted From Nollywood For 3 Years

The actress recently recounted how she was shut out of the English speaking part of Nollywood.

In a recent Instagram live chat, the American/Nigerian actress recounted how hurt she felt during the period where she suddenly stopped getting roles from casting directors or producers.

"I was knocked off English part of Nollywood for a few years and it was at the time when my career should have been up there, getting recognized and getting awards that was recognized all over Africa and being part of projects that had grossed millions in the cinemas. Then from nowhere being pushed out of the scene. That hurts. It was for about three plus years. I am still not there but I am working my way back up. I found another strategy to get back up there," Ade shared in a clip of the Instagram LIVE interview.

Recall the actress first opened up about being blacklisted from a part of the industry in an interview with Chude Jideonwo. She revealed that the blacklisting began right after her AMVCA nomination in 2017.

UK Bans Binance in Latest Cryptocurrency Crackdown

Britain’s financial regulator has ordered Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, to stop all regulated activity and issued a warning to consumers about the platform which is coming under growing scrutiny globally.

In a notice dated June 25, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said Binance Markets Ltd, Binance’s UK entity, “must not, without the prior written consent of the FCA, carry out any regulated activities…with immediate effect”.

Binance is yet to respond to the order.

While trading of cryptocurrencies is not directly regulated in Britain, offering services such as trading in cryptocurrency derivatives does require authorization.

The FCA has told Binance that by June 30 it must display a notice stating “BINANCE MARKETS LIMITED IS NOT PERMITTED TO UNDERTAKE ANY REGULATED ACTIVITY IN THE UK” on its website and social media channels.

It must also secure and preserve all records relating to UK consumers and inform the FCA this has been done by July 2.

The regulator did not explain why it taken the measures against Binance, which has said previously that it takes its legal obligations “very seriously” and engages “with regulators and law enforcement in a collaborative fashion”.

The FCA is stepping up its oversight of cryptocurrency trading, which has soared in popularity in the Britain along with other countries around the globe.

Since January, the FCA has required all firms offering cryptocurrency-related services to register and show they comply with anti-money laundering rules. However earlier this month it said that just five firms had registered, and that the majority were not yet compliant.

Japan’s regulator said on June 25 that Binance was operating in the country illegally, a notice posted on Japan’s Financial Services Agency website showed.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that officials from the U.S. Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service who probe money laundering and tax offences had sought information from individuals with insight into Binance’s business.

In April, Germany’s financial regulator BaFin warned the exchange risked being fined for offering digital tokens without an investor prospectus.

Burna Boy Wins BET’s Best New International Act Award For The 3rd Time In A Row

For the third time in a row, Burna Boy took him the plaque after he was named the winner at the 2021 BET Awards on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old beat fellow Nigerian singer Wizkid, Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania and other artistes to win the award.

He was present at the ceremony and collected the award himself after he missed the opportunity in 2019.

"I made it this time to collect my award myself," he said before he taught the audience a bit of Pidgin English.

"I want to teach you guys a little bit about where you are all really from," he said with his mum standing beside him before urging them to speak a phrase in Pidgin English.

"Three-peat, that's my third one, back to back," he said in a video on BET's social media page.

Burna Boy continues to dominate this category following his stellar years, releasing three critically acclaimed albums back-to-back.

He released 'Outside' in 2018 before his win in 2019. The release of 'African Giant' in 2019 saw him continue his dominance in the award in 2020.

He released his most recent project, Twice as Tall, in 2020.

During this insane run, the Port Harcourt-born musician also grabbed a Grammy win and a nomination.
