Christmas in Miami, the latest film in the Akpos franchise created by comedian Ayo Makun, has raced to N100.7 million in its opening week at the box office.

The comedy film made a total of N100,695,675 as its 7-day gross, according to figures compiled by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

The film was screened in 61 locations and watched by more than 49,000 viewers since its December 24, 2021 release.

The film’s performance is the best opening of any Nollywood film this year, and finished the week second only to Disney’s Spider-Man: No Way Home which ended its second week in Nigerian cinemas with a 7-day gross of N172.3 million, and N451.4 million in total.

The Aki and Pawpaw nostalgia project by Play Network Studios finished the week in third place, sweeping N29.7 million at the box office to end up with N80.4 million after two weeks of screening.

Christmas in Miami is the fourth installment in the Akpos film series, following 30 Days in Atlanta (163.4 million box office return), A Trip to Jamaica (N180.3 million), and 10 Days in Sun City (N176.7 million).

AY’s Merrymen: The Real Yoruba Demons (N235.6 million) and Merry Men 2: Another Mission (N234.5 million) nets him a total of five films in the Top 15 list of highest grossing Nollywood films of all time.

Christmas in Miami has already sailed all the way up to 19th position with its opening week performance and should hope to reach the highs of Funke Akindele‘s Omo Ghetto: The Saga which became the highest grossing Nollywood film of all time this year with a total box office return of N636.1 million.

The film stars AY, Richard Mofe-Damijo, and Osita Iheme as a family at the Intercontinental Christmas Fiesta competing against other families of diverse backgrounds on an exotic island in Miami.

Directed by Robert Peters, the film also features international stars like John AmosManoj ChandraTanya PriceBarry PiacenteSterling Royston and more.

Nigerian music veteran Richard Mofe Damijo has celebrated his wife, Jumobi on their 21st wedding anniversary.

The movie star took to his Instagram page on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, where he penned a cute note to his wife.

“Can’t believe we are 21 years today! My Abike My Abk My Abiks Strong and courageous Gave up your fame To make us a home! “One in the family is enough” You said! Unworthy me. Thank you for yesterday Today And forever. I love you big time!,” he wrote.

‘That’s Hate’ – Nigerian Actor Yul Edochie Blasts Shatta Wale Over Insulting Comments

Nigerian actor Yul Edochie says Shatta Wale must apologise for disrespecting musicians from his country.

According to him, the dancehall artiste’s comments are tantamount to “hate” and are “too low for a man like you.”

During his much-touted Freedom Concert at the Accra Sports Stadium, Shatta Wale paused to take a swipe at his critics.

He also expressed his outrage at Nigerian artistes, who he accused of not being supportive of their Ghanaian counterparts.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Shatta Wale further entrenched his position by hitting out at Nigerian artistes.

Reacting to this, Yul Edochie slammed Shatta Wale over his comments and advised the singer to apologise.

“I remember when Nigerian movie producers were giving all the lead roles to Ghanaian actors a few years back, no Nigerian ever came out to say ‘F**k Ghanaian actors’,” he posted on Instagram.

“I have lots of fans from Ghana who send me goodwill messages daily, inviting me to Ghana and I appreciate all of them.

“I’m a fan of your music. Your track with Beyonce is always on repeat in my car. No matter what is pissing you off, a man like you with a large fan base should be using it to promote peace and unity among Africans and the rest of the world. You should apologise for such a statement.”

‘If You Win, I’ll Resign From Music’ – Nigerian Artiste Challenges Shatta Wale To Musical Battle

Controversial Nigerian Hip Hop artiste, Victor Odu aka Vic O has challenged Ghanaian music star, Shatta Wale to a musical battle.

Like other aggrieved Nigerian artistes, Vic O took to his Instagram page on Monday, December 27 to tackle Shatta Wale to battle after he used the ‘F’ word on musicians from the West African country.

In the said video shared on Instagram, Vic O vows to resign from music if the dancehall artiste (Shatta Wale) wins the contest.

His words: “Even if you have a big mouth like mine, you have the guts to be insulting Nigerian artistes. I don’t care what they must have done to you,”

“If anybody offends you in the Nigerian music industry, call the person’s name and insult the person don’t include everybody because if you include everybody, that means I’m among them. If you try that next time mehn, you will ever regret boy.”

He added: “If you say you’re a good singer or a good rapper, I challenge you to a rap battle, to a sing battle. Let us see what you can do. Be careful boy, be careful how you run your mouth.”
