Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, a Nigerian musician, has reacted to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency's burning of 194 billion Naira worth of cocaine.
Last Monday, the agency claimed a large-scale narcotics bust at a warehouse in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
During the operation, 1.9 tonnes of cocaine worth 197 billion naira was confiscated, and the alleged drug barons were apprehended.
The confiscated narcotics were set on fire in a video published on Tuesday by NDLEA on its Twitter page.
“VIDEO: NDLEA sets ablaze 1.8 tons of cocaine recovered from a warehouse in Ikorodu area of Lagos today, Tuesday 27th September 2022,” the caption read.
Falz, a lawyer turned rapper, reacted to the revelation by criticizing the agency for destroying possible evidence before suspects are charged in court.
According to a press statement issued by the agency on Tuesday, an order from the Federal High Court in Lagos was obtained for the public destruction of the illegal narcotics.
He asked, “This administration must think that we are daft sha!! What is this Lamba (lie) that the NDLEA is giving with this cocaine seizure saga? Dem dey burn evidence?”
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd) was represented at the site of demolition by the agency's Director, Prosecution and Legal Services, Deputy Commander General of Narcotics Sunday Joseph.
According to Sunday, 1,828 blocks of the 1.8-ton confiscated cocaine would be crushed and burned a fire, while the remainder will be secured to prosecute the suspects who were brought to observe the operation.
He further affirmed, “The Agency is proceeding with the prosecution of those arrested in connection with this consignment. On this, the public can rest assured that NDLEA shall pursue the trial to a logical conclusion.”
