Ooni Of Ife Set To Marry 6th Wife In 2 Months

Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, is preparing to marry for the sixth time in less than two months.

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, the Ooni's spokesperson, Moses Olafare, announced the wedding in a Facebook post.

The monarch will marry his sixth wife, Temitope Adesegun, on Monday, October 24, 2022, according to the statement.

This comes less than a week after Oba Ogunwusi married Ronke Ademiluyi, the originator of African Fashion Week, in a ceremony on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

According to Inspiration FM, Olori Ademiluyi is the great-granddaughter of Ajagun Ademiluyi, the 48th Ooni of Ife.

According to Olafare's post, the Ooni's sixth wife-to-be, Adesegun, is an Ijebu princess.

"Olori Temitope Adesegun Ogunwusi an Ijebu Princess cum Ile-Ife Queen," Olafare said on Facebook.

“Tomorrow is the D-day.”

It should be noted that the acclaimed king's previous (third) wife, Naomi Silekunola, stated in December 2021 that her marriage to the monarch will end.

The former queen and the Ooni of Ife married roughly three years ago and had a son together.

Ooni has been married to several women, including Adebukola Bombata, the reported first wife of the Ooni of Ife, who divorced the king shortly after he assumed the throne.

Following the failure of his marriage to Silekunola, the king has wedded five ladies in less than two months.

The queens are as follows: Mariam Anako, now his wife, on September 6, 2022; Elizabeth Akinmudai and Tobiloba Philips on October 9, 2022; Ashley Adegoke on October 14, 2022; and Ronke Ademiluyi on October 20, 2022.

TAFM Unveils Second Edition, Opens Entry For Films Across Africa

The Annual Film Mischief festival's organizers have announced its second edition for 2023.

The festival's 2023 edition, themed #ShootTheCulture, will continue to draw passionate short film fans and creators from  all over Africa to the city of Lagos, Nigeria.

The festival, which, like the first edition, will mostly highlight films of Nigerian provenance, but also include films from other African countries.

Chukwu Martin, founder of TAFM confirmed the festival's new edition in a statement. “In March 2022, we launched The Annual Film Mischief to shine the spotlight on filmmakers daring to tell stories with unique narratives and styles. The average African filmmaker comes from humble beginnings and though there will be limited resources, there will never be limits to creativity, hence our theme – ‘Less is More’. It was a call to action to reach beyond financial limitations and dig into the abundant well of creativity.”

According to the press statement, the festival selections will include domestic and international feature and short films. Submissions for the 2023 edition of The Annual Film Mischief will officially open November 1st, 2022, and filmmakers are encouraged to submit entries early enough through TAFM’s filmfreeway page at no cost at all.

Martin mentioned the previous film's success at the festival and went on to represent the industry internationally. "We had some accomplishments to be proud of. ‘Yahoo+’, one of the films screened at TAFM ’22, went on to get nationwide theatrical distribution with moderate success at the Nigerian box office.”

Other directors whose movies featured at the last event went on to gain recognition at film festivals both local and internationally. Olabode Izy, who earned the Audience Cheese Pick award at the festival last year for his film 'The Samaritan,' went on to get acclaim at other festivals like as Realtime International Film Festival and Cuckoo International Film Awards.

Victony Is Nigeria’s First-Ever Spotify Singles Artist

Victony, a rising Nigerian musician and Spotify RADAR Africa graduate, is releasing the country's first-ever Spotify Single, a rendition of Davido's "Dami Duro." The cover, which is only accessible on Spotify, is a disco-inspired take on Davido's legendary decade-old party hit.

Victony made his debut on the music world with his mixtape 'The Outlaw King.' He began making Rap music and has now evolved into a diversified combination of Afrobeats, R&B, Trap, and Afropop sounds.

In 2021, he continued to convert ears with critically praised hits such as 'Pray' and Mayorkun's smash tune, 'Holy Father.' Outlaw EP, published in May of this year, featured the contemplative single 'Kolomental' and the viral smash, 'Soweto,' which have collected millions of listens on Spotify.

'Dami Duro', the breakout smash by Davido, is a song that’s familiar to just about every Afrobeats fan. Released in 2012 on his debut album, 'Omo Baba Olowo', the track is still a staple at Afrobeats raves and club nights across Africa.

Speaking about the importance of the song, Victony says:

“Dami Duro is a really beautiful song by Davido. My favorite part of the track is the hook. It’s very audacious, it’s so powerful. I really, really love that. With the Spotify Singles version, we wanted to do something really different to make it more of a classic and give it this disco feel - I’d say ‘Grandpa Ebelebe’ style.”

To celebrate the legacy of Nigeria’s rich music history, Spotify is unveiling reimagined renditions of what many consider modern-day Nigerian classics, performed by selected artists. A first for Spotify Africa, the covers reflect Spotify’s commitment to being the global hub for the discovery and growth of Nigerian music.

Kanye West Apologises For Anti-Semitic Comments

American rapper, Kanye West has tendered his apology to people hurt by his series of anti-semitic comments in the past week.

West appeared on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show which aired on Wednesday where he was called out by the host for targeting the Jewish community with hurtful remarks.

In one of the tweets that led to Twitter restricting his account, the rapper wrote, “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up, I’ll go death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I can’t actually be anti-semitic because black people are Jewish also. You people gave toyed with me and gave tried to blackball whoever opposes your agenda.”

Kanye later clarified that he meant to say Defcon 3 in the tweet. Defence readiness condition (Defcon) is an alert system used by the US military, with five levels of readiness, with level one being the highest. Defcon level 3 refers to “Increase in force readiness above normal readiness.”

While he first doubled down on the comments during the interview, West later acknowledged the fact that he had hurt people and caused “confusion”.

When asked if he regretted his “death con 3” tweet, Kanye said “No… Absolutely not.”

Afterward, the preview video cuts to him making a U-turn and tendering his apology.

“I will say I’m sorry for the people that I hurt with the Defcon [comment], the confusion that I caused,” he said.

“I felt like I caused hurt and confusion. And I’m sorry for the families of the people that had nothing to do with the trauma that I have been through.

“I just want to say that it’s wrong to hold an apology hostage and I gotta let go of that, and free myself of the trauma and say, ‘Look, I’m just gonna give it all up to God right now.’ And say to those families that I hurt, you know, I really want to give you guys a big hug. And I want to say I’m sorry for hurting you with my comments.”
