November 15, 2022 ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Breaks Box Office Records Across Africa

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Breaks Box Office Records Across Africa

The film 'Wakanda Forever' is now setting box office records throughout Africa. The Marvel Studios Super Hero blockbuster, which will be released in theaters on November 11, 2022, has already had the highest opening weekend in West Africa.

The sequel to Ryan Coogler's 2018 smash 'Black Panther' captivated viewers throughout the continent, with slightly under 300,000 recorded attendances.

With a box office total of 240 million in West Africa, 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' became the greatest industry opening weekend of all time. The film grossed Kes 25 million, making it both the largest opening weekend box office of 2022 and the greatest post-pandemic opening in East Africa to date.

The film grossed R16.5 million in Southern Africa, making it the largest opening weekend box office of 2022. The original 2018 film 'Black Panther' is still the number one film in both East and West Africa, and the number two film in Southern Africa.

Away from the continent, the film is performing well, grossing $180 million in its opening weekend and becoming the second-biggest domestic launch. According to Time, the Walt Disney Company believes that over 4,396 theatres in the United States and Canada were packed.

The sequel shattered the previous record for a November opening in North America, surpassing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire's $158 million in 2013.

Prior to the film's release, the directors and cast of Marvel Studios' Black Panther: Wakanda Forever visited Lagos, becoming the first official African Marvel Studios premiere in Nigeria.

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, director Ryan Coogler, together with Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tenoch Huerta Meja, and local artists featured in the film, joined dignitaries and guests for the black carpet premiere event.

On Wednesday, 9 November 2022, Johannesburg held the South African Premiere of the film, and invited Connie Chiume (Mining Tribe Elder "Zawavari"), Dr Ernest Khalema (Language and Cultural Consultant on the film), and local musicians from the soundtrack.

Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M'Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and the Dora Milaje (featuring Florence Kasumba) struggle to safeguard their homeland from interfering foreign forces in Marvel Studios' 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.'

As the Wakandans attempt to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must come together and build a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda with the assistance of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman). The film stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena, and Alex Livinalli, as well as Tenoch Huerta Meja as Namor, king of a secret underwater realm.

The film, directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, is currently showing in theaters worldwide.
