Speed Darlington Released After Two Months in Detention

Controversial musician Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from Kuje prison after spending almost two months in detention.

Darlington’s release follows the granting of a ₦20 million bail last Wednesday by a federal high court in Abuja. His lawyer, Stan Alieke, confirmed the development and shared photos with the singer on Instagram. Alieke also revealed that Darlington’s legal team plans to seek redress against the Nigerian police for what they described as his “illegal incarceration.”

The artist, widely known for his hit single Bangdadang, was re-arrested on November 27, 2024, during a performance in Owerri, Imo State. This re-arrest stemmed from allegations of cyberstalking Grammy award-winning musician Burna Boy.

Darlington’s legal troubles began in October 2024 when Burna Boy filed a police petition over suggestive comments made by Darlington. The comments allegedly linked the “Ye” crooner to embattled hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, sparking controversy online.

Although released on bail, Darlington is set to return to court on March 18 for trial on cybercrime charges.

DJ Jimmy Jatt Reveals He Lost His Sight in 2020

Renowned disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, better known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, recently opened up about his health struggles, including losing his sight in 2020 and being diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

In an appearance on Channels TV's Rubbin' Minds, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, DJ Jimmy Jatt shared how his health challenges began after he decided to explore life outside Nigeria. In 2020, he experienced a series of setbacks that led to his vision loss and subsequent surgery to restore his sight. Afterward, he moved to the United States, where he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

While in the U.S., he underwent dialysis before returning to Nigeria to receive a kidney transplant. Despite these health battles, DJ Jimmy Jatt continued his passion for DJing, performing across America and Europe, before eventually returning to Nigeria in December.

Reflecting on the journey, he said, “Maybe I caused it myself because, in 2019, I decided to spend more time outside Nigeria. I had lived all my life in Lagos and wanted to explore other parts of the world—Europe, America, everywhere. But in 2020, I started experiencing health issues. Due to the travel restrictions at the time, I stayed in Nigeria. I lost my sight and had to undergo surgery to regain it. After recovering, I felt the need to stick to my plan of living elsewhere, so I relocated to the U.S. While there, I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease."

He continued, “I stayed in the U.S. for a while and was on dialysis. Eventually, I returned to Nigeria for a kidney transplant. After the procedure, I chose to take time off to fully recover. Once I was discharged, I left Nigeria again. Even while abroad, I continued DJing across America and Europe. However, I decided it was time to return home, so I came back to Nigeria in December.”

DJ Jimmy Jatt also shared that kidney disease is not always linked to lifestyle choices. He explained, “I’ve never smoked and had long stopped drinking alcohol. My kidney disease stemmed from diabetes.”

His resilience and determination to keep DJing despite his health setbacks serve as an inspiration to many.

January 21, 2025 Efe Omorogbe Discusses Mediation in Mercy Chinwo and EeZee Conceptz Dispute

Efe Omorogbe Discusses Mediation in Mercy Chinwo and EeZee Conceptz Dispute

Efe Omorogbe, a prominent entertainment expert and founder of Now Muzik Group, has shared his perspective on the ongoing conflict between gospel artist Mercy Chinwo and her former label, EeZee Conceptz. His comments follow recent statements by Apostle Anselm Madubuko, who has claimed a role in mediating the dispute.

Omorogbe, speaking as both a music industry expert and an attendee of a recent mediation meeting, provided clarity on the situation. In a video shared on his Instagram, Omorogbe disclosed that he participated in a mediation session on May 13, 2024, which included Mercy Chinwo, representatives from EeZee Conceptz, Hilda Dokubo, Apostle Anselm Madubuko, and Mena Ajakpovi, as well as the husbands of Mercy Chinwo and Judi Kay. The key issue discussed at the meeting was the transfer of master rights for their music catalogues.

Omorogbe explained that under typical industry agreements, master rights are usually owned by the record label. If an artist wishes to acquire these rights, it must be done through a formal process, which typically involves a valuation of the catalogue, followed by negotiations and a fair buyout offer. He emphasized that it is not industry practice to forcibly compel a label to relinquish such rights.

“Master rights are typically owned by the label under standard industry agreements,” Omorogbe clarified. “If an artist wants to acquire these rights, they must follow proper procedures. This includes conducting a valuation of the catalogue, making an offer to the label, and negotiating a fair agreement. Forcing a label to give up master rights is not in line with global industry practices.”

Responding to Apostle Madubuko’s recent claims that EeZee Conceptz has obstructed prior reconciliation attempts, Omorogbe acknowledged the difficulties inherent in such disputes but stressed the importance of respecting contracts and resolving conflicts with transparency and professionalism. He pointed out that similar situations have been resolved through negotiations, citing Burna Boy’s successful efforts to repurchase his master rights from Aristokrat Records in his earlier career as an example.

Omorogbe reiterated that the proper route for resolving such disputes is for the artist to offer to buy the master rights at a fair valuation, which the label can either accept or reject.

The mediation meeting, held at the residence of a respected reverend, also involved representatives from both Mercy Chinwo and EeZee Conceptz, gospel artist Judikay, legal counsel for EeZee Conceptz, and veteran actress Hilda Dokubo. Omorogbe attended the session to offer his industry insight and contribute to resolving the situation.

In conclusion, Omorogbe emphasized, “This is an issue that can be resolved professionally and amicably. There is no need for compulsion, law enforcement, or unnecessary escalation. Negotiation is the right path to resolve such matters.”

The ongoing dispute between Mercy Chinwo, Judi Kay, and EeZee Conceptz has drawn significant public attention, with allegations from both sides regarding financial mismanagement, contract violations, and the ownership of the artists' music catalogues.
