Kemi Olunloyo Cuts Ties with Family After Ex-Governor Father’s Death, Declares ‘I’m No Longer Part of Them’

Kemi Olunloyo, a polarizing media figure, has publicly disowned her family name and severed ties with the lineage of her late father, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former Oyo State Governor and celebrated mathematician who passed away on Sunday, April 6, at age 89. Through a flurry of posts and videos on Facebook and TikTok, Olunloyo announced her exit from the Olunloyo family and refused condolences for her father’s death.

“I’m sharing video statements about my father’s passing on TikTok. I’m no longer part of the Olunloyo family, as I stated in 2024—I won’t return to Nigeria, even for my parents’ deaths,” she declared. “I’m not accepting condolences because I’m not offering any.” Though she claims to have forgiven her father, Olunloyo painted him as a dual-natured figure—charming to the public, but destructive at home. “He was one person to the world, another to us. He shattered our family, torturing us emotionally and physically as kids. He used me, exploiting my positive energy while portraying me as his favorite to the world—a lie.”

She further accused her father of dabbling in occult practices until a late-life conversion. “He was deep into ‘juju’ and the occult. I confronted him on his 80th birthday, after which he sought Pastor E.A. Adeboye to become born-again—and he did,” she said. Olunloyo also pointed to her father’s marriage to Aderonke Omololu Olunloyo (formerly Ronke Sonaike), whom he met during his 1983 campaign, as a breaking point. She alleged the union, and Aderonke’s subsequent pregnancy, devastated her mother and fractured the family. “My mother wed a brilliant man—a Ph.D. at 26—who turned polygamist. It’s not polygamy itself, but how it tore us apart.”

As of this report, neither the Olunloyo family nor the late governor’s representatives have addressed her allegations.

Iyanya Foresees Collaboration Among Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy

Afrobeats artist Iyanya has voiced hope for a future collaboration featuring Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, despite challenges highlighted by Davido, who recently blamed fans for fueling discord among the trio. Having collaborated with all three himself, Iyanya believes it’s time they set aside rivalries and unite musically.

Taking to social media, he urged the stars to prioritize creating music and generating revenue over engaging with detractors. “Trolls thrive on provoking hardworking talents like these brothers. Ignoring them isn’t always easy, especially when they target something or someone close to your heart,” he wrote. “I’m confident we’ll one day see Davido, Wiz, and Burna collaborate. I’m among the few in this industry lucky enough to have worked with all three. Let’s focus on music and making money.”

Wizkid and Burna Boy have a history of successful joint efforts, delivering tracks like “B D’or” and “Ginger,” while Burna Boy and Davido teamed up on “Trumpet” before Burna’s global rise. Iyanya’s optimism hints at the potential for a groundbreaking trio project.

Ogun Accident Claims Lives of Gospel Singer Kekere Jesu and Three Other Prominent Ministers

A tragic accident along the Ikorodu–Sagamu Road in Ogun State has claimed the lives of at least four well-known gospel ministers: Evangelist Ayodeji David, widely recognized as Kekere Jesu, Evangelist Iyanu Joseph, Opeyemi Adesina, and Monjolajesu Oluwapamilerin. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the devastating incident through a statement released by Florence Okupe, the Public Information Officer for the Ogun State Command.

The ministers were reportedly traveling to a ministry engagement when the crash occurred. According to the FRSC, their vehicle was involved in a high-impact collision with another vehicle, resulting in the immediate deaths of all four occupants. The Nation Newspaper reported that the accident involved multiple vehicles and claimed over 24 lives in total. Initial findings from the FRSC suggest that excessive speed and reduced visibility were key factors in the deadly collision.

In the aftermath, The Nation noted that Kekere Jesu and his senior brother’s wife have already been buried, while the body of his personal assistant was transported to Ado-Ekiti for burial. His fiancée’s remains were handed over to her family for interment.

Chess Master Tunde Onakoya Rejoices as Adopted Son Triumphs in the US

Tunde Onakoya, Nigeria’s chess maestro and the visionary behind Chess in Slums, has shared a touching tale of triumph and fatherhood. Known for empowering underprivileged children through chess, Onakoya revealed how one of his adopted sons, Jamiu, recently clinched a chess championship in the United States—a moment that left him brimming with pride.

Onakoya’s journey with Jamiu and his brother Ayomide began in 2018 in the slums of Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos. “I met Jamiu,” he wrote on social media. “A curious, brilliant kid, full of light, working as a roadside mechanic. I invited him and Ayomide to our weekend chess academy.” As their bond deepened, Onakoya visited their home and met their mother—a resilient woman who had lost her leg in an accident while scavenging plastic bottles to support her sons. Abandoned by her husband after Jamiu’s birth, she raised the boys alone, unable to afford medical care.

In 2019, her health took a devastating turn. Onakoya recalled her tearful plea: “She asked me to care for her boys if anything happened to her.” Two weeks later, she passed away. “That day, I became a father,” he said. The brothers moved in with him, returned to school, and began to thrive. Jamiu emerged as a chess prodigy and is now pursuing a university degree, while Ayomide excels in track and field, nearing the end of secondary school.

Seven years after their paths first crossed, Jamiu achieved a stunning victory. Onakoya announced that Jamiu won the ICN Chess Championship in New York, besting over 200 USCF-rated players and securing a $500 scholarship. “My heart is overwhelmed with joy,” Onakoya wrote. “I fought back tears today because I am so proud of you. Mama Jamiu, your boys are doing well. I kept my promise—and I always will.”

From the slums of Lagos to a chessboard in New York, Jamiu’s success is a testament to Onakoya’s unwavering commitment to transforming lives, one move at a time.
