September 7, 2023 APC Leader Emphasizes PEPC Judgment Grounded In Facts, Not Emotions

In a virtual news conference held on Thursday, Mr. Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and a seasoned lawyer, emphasized that the judgment delivered by the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Wednesday was rooted in factual analysis, not driven by emotions.

Onokpasa stated that the petitioners had based their legal challenge to President Bola Tinubu's election victory on sentiments rather than substantial evidence, ultimately making the entire court process futile.

He expressed his disappointment, asserting, "The petitioners wasted our time as Nigerians asked the court's and lawyers' time. The position of the law is not sentimental but factual."

As a former member of the dissolved APC Presidential Campaign Council, Onokpasa noted that there were attempts to undermine and pressure the judiciary during the PEPC proceedings, but these efforts proved unsuccessful.

He also highlighted the significance of the ruling regarding the allocation of 25 per cent votes in Abuja, a decision that was met with much contention. According to him, this ruling established equal representation for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alongside other states, dispelling any notion of unequal citizenry based on location.
