Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has approved ₦634 million for the payment of the 2024/2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for students in public secondary schools across the state.

The announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Friday in Akure. According to the statement, the initiative aims to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.

A total of 23,048 students who passed the Joint Senior Secondary School II Promotion Examination, conducted by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, will benefit from the registration payment.

"For years, the Ondo State government’s commitment to covering WASSCE fees for public school students has provided significant relief to parents, guardians, and stakeholders, especially amid prevailing economic challenges," the statement noted.

The WASSCE is a critical academic milestone that opens doors to higher education and professional opportunities. By covering registration fees annually, the government ensures equitable access to education, allowing all eligible students to take the exam without financial constraints.

The statement further reaffirmed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to sustaining this initiative, emphasizing its alignment with his administration’s commitment to educational development in the state.
