Afro Nation made a regrettable announcement on Tuesday, revealing the cancellation of the highly anticipated Afrobeat’s festival initially planned to take place at Tafawa Belewa Square in Lagos.
Afro Nation, an annual three-day music festival organized by Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow, had been scheduled to hold its inaugural edition in Nigeria on December 19-20 in Lagos.
In a statement issued by the organizers through their official account, they expressed their disappointment in cancelling the event. The statement conveyed their deep commitment to delivering high-quality shows, but they found it currently unfeasible to meet the standards that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.
The statement read: "Unfortunately, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will now not be taking place. As event organizers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023."
The organizers also emphasized their role in the Afrobeat’s community, providing a platform for artists to connect with their fans and promoting cultural events worldwide. They highlighted their successful shows in various locations, including Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit. They expressed their special connection with Nigeria and their disappointment at being unable to celebrate with the Nigerian audience this year.
However, they reassured their commitment to creating a remarkable Afro Nation show in Lagos in the future, aiming to provide an event that everyone can take pride in.
For ticket holders, the statement assured that all tickets, including booking fees, would be fully refunded. Ticket buyers would receive an email with information about the refund process.
The organizers concluded by expressing their appreciation for the support they have received from fans and promised to return soon for another unforgettable event.
