October 30, 2024 Abuja Bolt Driver Case: Alex Ikwechegh to Face Arraignment in Kuje Court
Abia federal lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh, who was involved in an assault against Abuja Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya, is set to be arraigned today at noon before the Kuje Magistrate Court.

The Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit is overseeing Ikwechegh's investigation and prosecution. The lawmaker, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, was caught in a viral video physically assaulting the Bolt driver on October 27. The incident reportedly occurred while Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Ikwechegh at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.

The incident has sparked public condemnation, with Nigerians voicing strong disapproval. In response, the lawmaker issued an apology and pledged to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. Ikwechegh also revealed he is seeking counseling to address his actions.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju, representing the driver, stated, “We are on our way to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honourable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Stephen, a Bolt driver. The IGP’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is handling the investigation and prosecution.” The arraignment, open to media coverage, is scheduled for 12 pm.
