The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed a tragic motor accident that occurred on Wednesday near Nyanya Bridge.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, a Dangote trailer carrying cement lost control while approaching the bridge, crashing into stationary vehicles caught in traffic. The impact triggered a massive fire, engulfing 14 vehicles.
While eyewitnesses reported over 10 fatalities, police confirmed that six victims were pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Their bodies have been deposited at Karu General Hospital Morgue.
Emergency responders, alongside security agencies and bystanders, worked to contain the fire and restore normal traffic flow. Hospitals in the area, including National Hospital and Asokoro Hospital, are currently overwhelmed with victims.
