March 20, 2025 Abiodun Plans to Develop Large Scale Farmers’ Markets Modeled After Europe’s Best

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to establish large-scale Farmers’ Markets across the state to connect farmers directly to buyers. During an inspection of the ongoing Farmers’ Market project in Asero, Abeokuta, the governor revealed that the initiative aims to improve food distribution and eliminate middlemen.

Governor Abiodun disclosed that his administration intends to replicate Europe’s largest farmers’ market, located in France, with a major hub along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Smaller markets will also be set up in multiple locations to support local farmers.

In addition, Ogun State has introduced the Farmers’ Management Information System, the first of its kind in Nigeria, to track and support farmers through land preparation, pesticide provision, and fertilizer distribution.

Farmers at the Asero market expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing that it will boost their economic activities and reduce unnecessary price hikes caused by middlemen.
