Mr. Femi Falana asked the counsel to release the embattled Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky in line with the President’s promise to respect the rule of law.
Falana’s request is contained in his letter to the Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami were he alleged that the AGF gave contradictory reasons to justify the continued detention of the IMN leader.
He asked that the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Kolawole now at the Court of Appeal had on December 2016 declared as illegal and unconditional the arrest and detention of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat.
The senior lawyer also made reference to the recent release of Omoyele Sowore and Sambo Dasuki from custody, insisting that some measure of action should be metered out on El-Zakzaky.
The IMN leader and his wife have been in detention since 2015, when some of his followers clashed with soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna state.
