ASTON VILLA 2 – 0 EVERTON
Aston Villa recorded their first win of the 2019/20 Premier League season thanks to goals in either half by Wesley and Anwar El Ghazi on Friday 23rd August, 2019.
After a bright opening by the visitors, a well-weighted through-ball by Jota found Wesley, who finished coolly into the corner for his first Premier League goal.
Alex Iwobi came on for Everton after the break and had a powerful close-range strike blocked before rifling a shot against the post in the visitors’ next attack.
Theo Walcott also came off the bench for the Toffees and missed a golden chance to level the match in added time, sending Moise Kean’s cross over the bar.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time Villa struck again on the counter-attack, substitute El Ghazi latching on to John McGinn’s pass to put the ball under Jordan Pickford and the result beyond doubt.
NORWICH 2 – 3 CHELSEA
Tammy Abraham scored his first two Premier League goals for Chelsea, who produced an entertaining 3-2 victory at Norwich City on Saturday, 24th August, 2019.
The Blues took the lead in the third minute, Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross finding Abraham, who guided the ball into the bottom corner.
Norwich equalised three minutes later, when Teemu Pukki squared the ball for Todd Cantwell to tap in his first Premier League goal.
Frank Lampard’s side restored their lead after 17 minutes, Mason Mount cutting in from the left and finishing emphatically past Tim Krul.
Norwich equalised again 13 minutes later, as Pukki latched on to Emiliano Buendia’s through-ball to shoot past Kepa Arrizabalaga for his fifth goal in three Premier League appearances.
Chelsea made it 3-2 midway through the second half, Abraham collecting Mateo Kovacic’s pass to shoot low past Krul.
Although Ben Godfrey hit the crossbar for Norwich with a header, the west Londoners held on for Lampard’s first win as a Premier League head coach.
BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION 0 – 2 SOUTHAMPTON
Two goals in the second half earned Southampton their first points of the season with a win against 10-man Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, 24th August, 2019.
Brighton went a man down on 30 minutes when Florin Andone was sent off for a high foul on Yan Valery.
Southampton substitute Moussa Djenepo curled a fantastic goal beyond Mat Ryan on 55 minutes to put Southampton ahead.
Nathan Redmond sealed the victory in stoppage time when he finished off Sofiane Boufal’s cross.
It was a first defeat of the season for Brighton, who thought they had led in the first half but Lewis Dunk’s header was ruled out for offside against Dan Burn.
MANCHESTER UNITED 1 – 2 CRYSTAL PALACE
Patrick van Aanholt scored in stoppage time to give Crystal Palace their first win against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday, 24th of August, 2019.
Palace led for much of the contest after Jordan Ayew’s first-half goal against the run of play, but United thought they had earned a draw when Daniel James scored late on.
That appeared to atone for Marcus Rashford’s miss from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
But Van Aanholt popped up in the third of five added minutes to earn Palace a first victory against United since 1991.
SHEFFIELD UNITED 1 – 2 LECEISTER CITY
Substitute Harvey Barnes struck a spectacular half-volley to help Leicester City beat Sheffield United 2-1 on Saturday, 24th of August, 2019.
Leicester enjoyed the lions’ share of possession during the first half and took the lead in the 38th minute.
James Maddison’s through-ball found Jamie Vardy, who shot powerfully past Dean Henderson.
Chris Wilder’s decision to bring on Oliver McBurnie was immediately rewarded, with the substitute heading in George Baldock’s 62nd-minute cross.
Leicester restored their lead when substitute Harvey Barnes drilled a stunning half-volley from a cleared corner.

Lundstram was denied from point-blank range by Kasper Schmeichel as the Foxes
held on to claim their first win of the season.
WATFORD 1 – 3 WEST HAM UNITED
Sebastien Haller’s first two goals for West Ham United helped secure a 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday, 24th of August, 2019.
Mark Noble opened the scoring after three minutes, converting a penalty after Abdoulaye Doucoure had fouled Manuel Lanzini.
Watford responded brightly, with Gerard Deulofeu hitting the bar before Andre Gray levelled in the 17th minute.
Will Hughes missed a glorious opportunity early in the second half to put Watford ahead, blazing over from two yards.
Haller made them pay, finishing Felipe Anderson’s cutback on 64 minutes before a close-range bicycle kick nine minutes later confirmed the Hammers’ first win of the season.
LIVERPOOL 3 – 1 ARSENAL
Two goals from Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool maintain their perfect start to the season with a 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield on Saturday, 24th of August, 2019.
Joel Matip’s header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner set them on their way just before half-time.
Liverpool doubled their lead three minutes after the break when Mohamed Salah was pulled back by David Luiz in the area and Salah converted the spot-kick.
The Egyptian scored his second on 59 minutes when he beat David Luiz near the halfway line and advanced to score.
Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both passed up early goal scoring chances for Arsenal, who did reduce the deficit on 85 minutes through Lucas Torreira.
Liverpool equaled a club-record winning streak of 12 league matches to go top with nine points from three matches.
BOURNEMOUTH 1 – 3 MANCHESTER CITY
Two goals from Sergio Aguero helped champions Manchester City return to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, 25th August 2019.
City opened the scoring after 15 minutes, with Aguero pouncing on Kevin De Bruyne’s touch to tuck the ball into the bottom corner.
Pep Guardiola’s side made it 2-0 after 43 minutes, Raheem Sterling controlling David Silva’s pass and powering the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.
AFC Bournemouth grabbed a lifeline in first-half stoppage time, with substitute Harry Wilson curling a stunning free-kick into the top corner.
City struck a decisive third goal midway through the second half, with Aguero finishing emphatically after the ball broke to him in the area.
Man City move up to second place, two points behind leaders Liverpool, while AFC Bournemouth drop to 10th.
TOTTENHAM 0 – 1 NEWCASTLE
Joelinton scored a maiden Premier League goal as Newcastle United shocked Tottenham Hotspur to secure their first points of the season on Sunday, 25th August 2019.
The club-record signing’s winner also gives Steve Bruce a first victory as Newcastle head coach as Spurs suffered defeat in 2019/20 for the first time.
The hosts had 80 per cent possession but it was Newcastle who went ahead. Christian Atsu, a substitute for the injured Allan Saint-Maximin, set up Joelinton to strike past Hugo Lloris.
Spurs had Son Heung-min returning from suspension but the South Korean was unable to steer a volley past Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Lucas Moura and Harry Kane both missed late chances as Newcastle held on for a 22nd Premier League victory over their joint-favourite opponents.
WOLVES 1 – 1 BURNLEY
Raul Jimenez’s stoppage-time penalty stretched Wolverhampton Wanderers’ unbeaten home run to 10 matches as they drew 1-1 with Burnley on Sunday, 25th August 2019.
Ashley Barnes broke the deadlock after 13 minutes, latching on to Dwight McNeil’s knockdown and shooting low past Rui Patricio from 20 yards for his fourth goal of the season.
Burnley twice came close to adding a second during the first half, with Ben Mee’s header coming back off the crossbar and Patricio denying Chris Wood.
Wolves improved after the break as Morgan Gibbs-White shot wide and Jonny headed over.
After Jimenez hit the post in the third minute of stoppage time, it appeared that the home side had missed their opportunity.
But Wolves’ perseverance paid off, with Jimenez converting from the penalty spot in the seventh minute of stoppage time after he was fouled by Erik Pieters to earn a third consecutive draw.
