August 23, 2019 Presidential Election Tribunal Strikes Out Petition Against Election Of President Buhari

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has struck out the petition filed by the Hope Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, AMBROSE OWURU, to challenge the victory of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI at the February 23, 2019 poll.

The unanimous judgment of the five-man tribunal led by Justice MOHAMMED GARBA leaves only one case challenging the outcome of the last presidential election.

The pending case is the one filed by Peoples Democratic Party, and its presidential candidate, ATIKU ABUBAKAR, and on which the tribunal reserved judgment on Wednesday.

The tribunal struck out the HDP’s petition on the grounds that it was premised on a purported referendum which allegedly held on February 16, 2019.

A member of the Buhari Media team, NIYI AKINSIJU said the Tribunal took the right decision.
