Taiwo Awoniyi has joined German Bundesliga side, FSV Mainz 05, on a season loan deal from Liverpool.
The move is his sixth loan spell away from Liverpool. The striker had been earlier linked with a move to Nice before the deal fell through.
According to Liverpool’s official website, the deal is subject to a completed medical and international clearance.
Awoniyi initially joined the Reds in August 2015 having starred for Nigeria at the U-17 World Cup two years earlier. The 21-year-old signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool in the summer of 2018. The U-23 international has since enjoyed loan stints with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Royal Excel Mouscron (twice) and KAA Gent, scoring a total of 14 goals and adding three assists in all competitions in 2018-19, during spells with both Gent and Mouscron
