Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely recognized as Bobrisky, a prominent crossdresser and social media personality, has revealed that he recently lost $990 to an online romance scam. The revelation came via an Instagram post on Sunday, where Bobrisky expressed his disbelief and frustration at having been tricked.
In his post, Bobrisky detailed how the scammer, who reached out through his DMs, maintained contact with him for several months. The individual claimed to be based in the United States before allegedly moving to Canada, building trust through frequent calls and feigned interest in Bobrisky’s personal life. “I never imagined I’d fall for something like this,” he wrote. “This guy slid into my DMs, and we’d been chatting for months. He’d call me almost daily, saying he lived in the USA and later moved to Canada.”
The scam unfolded when a U.S.-based client contacted Bobrisky for an advertisement deal and needed to send a deposit via CashApp. Lacking a CashApp account of his own, Bobrisky turned to his supposed romantic interest for assistance. “A few weeks back, a client from the USA reached out for an ad gig and needed a CashApp for the deposit. I asked this guy I’d been talking to, and he offered his account. The second the money hit, he blocked me,” Bobrisky recounted.
To warn his followers, Bobrisky posted screenshots of their conversations along with a photo of the alleged scammer on Instagram. He urged his audience to remain cautious and protect themselves from similar deceitful tactics online.
