March 18, 2025 Police Investigate Suspected Pipeline Attack in Rivers, Detain Two Suspects

The Rivers State Police Command has begun investigating the fire outbreak at the Trans Niger Delta Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), situated on the border of Kpor and Bodo communities. According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, security operatives on routine night patrol spotted the incident and immediately notified SPDC management.

Iringe-Koko confirmed that two suspects have been apprehended in connection with the fire. She noted that SPDC quickly implemented safety measures, including shutting down the affected pipeline. “Thanks to prompt action, the situation is now stabilized, posing no further risk to residents or the environment,” the statement read.

The police have launched a detailed probe to determine the fire’s cause, with the two detained individuals currently under interrogation to explore possible sabotage. The statement emphasized the Command’s dedication to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for criminal acts, saying, “The Rivers State Police Command remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard lives and property, ensuring peace and security by rooting out crime in the state.”
