A 50-year-old farmer, Alfa Mustapha, was shot dead at close range on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State. His lifeless body was discovered on Saturday, February 22, following an attack by an unidentified assailant.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, with spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola revealing that detectives have launched a full-scale investigation into the murder.
The tragic event was reported to the Police Outstation in Olodo around 6:30 p.m. by the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha. According to him, the deceased had left for his farm in the morning but failed to return home. Concerned about his absence, the Imam went to the farm at approximately 6:02 p.m., where he found Mustapha lying face-up with his cutlass beside him.
Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the victim had no signs of life. However, due to heavy rainfall and poor visibility, no immediate evidence of violence was detected. The scene was documented with photographs before the body was transported to the General Hospital in Odeda for medical examination.
A subsequent doctor’s assessment revealed that Mustapha had sustained bullet wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further forensic analysis.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s). He assured the public that the Command would ensure justice is served and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward, promising that such details would be handled with strict confidentiality.
