February 10, 2025 Supreme Court Throws Out Fubara’s Appeal Against Amaewhule-Led Assembly

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, presided over by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, has dismissed an appeal by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which challenged the leadership of the state’s House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule.

Justice Abba-Aji, delivering the ruling, imposed a ₦2 million cost against Fubara, directing that it be paid to the Rivers Assembly, listed as the first respondent, and Speaker Amaewhule, the second respondent.

The appeal was dismissed following its withdrawal by Fubara’s legal counsel, Yusuf Ali.

With this decision, the current leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly under Amaewhule remains unchanged.
