February 5, 2025 Two Petrol Tankers Explode at Filling Station in Adamawa

A massive fire broke out on Tuesday at an MRS filling station along Numan Road, near Yola International Airport, after two petrol-laden tankers exploded. The inferno, which occurred opposite Jezco filling station, sent residents into a frenzy as many rushed to the scene, despite the risks.

The fire engulfed both tankers, causing significant destruction. Emergency responders, including firefighters and security personnel, arrived swiftly to contain the blaze and secure the area. However, reports indicate that firefighters may have run out of water during their efforts to douse the flames.

This incident adds to a string of recent fuel-related disasters in Nigeria. On January 18, 2025, at least 86 people lost their lives, and 55 others were injured while attempting to scoop fuel from a fallen tanker in Niger State. Earlier that month, five people died in Agbor, Delta State, when a petrol-laden tanker crashed and caught fire.

Nigeria has witnessed multiple tragic fuel tanker explosions in recent months. In October 2024, a tanker explosion in Jigawa State claimed over 170 lives, leaving many others injured. Similarly, in September 2024, 59 people died when a fuel tanker collided with a truck carrying passengers and cattle in northwestern Niger State.

Authorities continue to urge residents to exercise caution around fuel-laden tankers to prevent further loss of lives.
