January 8, 2025 NYSC: Corps Members to Receive ₦77,000 Monthly Allowance Soon

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members across Nigeria will soon begin receiving a monthly allowance of ₦77,000.

This update was disclosed by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, during a briefing in Abuja. According to a statement by the NYSC spokesperson, Caroline Embu, General Ahmed emphasized his administration's commitment to prioritizing the welfare of corps members and confirmed that arrangements for the new allowance have been finalized.

The adjustment comes in response to Nigeria's revised minimum wage, which increased from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000 in July 2024.

Previously, in 2020, the NYSC raised the monthly allowance for corps members from₦19,800 to₦33,000 following the enactment of the₦30,000 minimum wage. The latest development aligns with the July 2024 signing of the new minimum wage bill by President Bola Tinubu, a move that concluded months of negotiations between government representatives, labor unions, and private sector stakeholders.
