Five people have been confirmed dead following a boat accident along the Bennett Island River in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday night, with details emerging on Tuesday.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a statement issued from Asaba, the state capital.

“There was a boat accident along Bennett Island River in Warri South,” Edafe stated.

He reported that five individuals lost their lives, six sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment, while 19 others were rescued. Sadly, one person remains missing.

Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate the missing individual.
