The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that two people were killed and two others injured by armed assailants in Abeokuta early Monday morning. According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings, located in the GRA area of Abeokuta.
Odutola reported that three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux confronted the occupants of a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA license plate, demanding the car keys. When the occupants resisted, the gunmen opened fire, injuring one Ola (surname unknown), Shobanke Oluwatimileyin, and two others.
Responding to distress calls, the Divisional Police Officer from Ibara secured the scene and transported the victims to the hospital. Two of the victims were pronounced dead by the attending doctor, while the remaining two are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.
Odutola stated that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the attack, with a focus on any possible links to cult-related activity. Updates on the investigation and efforts to apprehend the suspects will be provided in the coming days.
