November 9, 2024 Fireboy DML & Asake’s ‘Bandana’ Earns Silver Certification in the UK

Fireboy DML and Asake’s popular track “Bandana” has earned a silver certification in the United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone for both artists and the Afrobeats genre. This is Asake’s first certification, a testament to the genre’s meteoric rise; Afrobeats has seen a 1,200% increase in streams on Spotify since 2017.

The certification, awarded by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), signifies that “Bandana” has surpassed 200,000 units sold in the UK. Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, has been gaining remarkable traction in the music industry. He recently received his first Grammy nomination, underscoring his ascent as a global talent. His nomination alongside prominent Nigerian artists like Rema, Tems, Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido celebrates the rich talent and creativity within the industry.

Fireboy DML, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, is already a household name internationally. With hits like “Peru” and “Jealous,” he has amassed millions of streams and a dedicated global fanbase. The success of “Bandana” further solidifies his place as one of Nigeria’s top musical talents.

Notably, Burna Boy became the first Nigerian artist to earn a silver-certified album in the UK with African Giant, and Wizkid’s collaboration with Drake on “One Dance” introduced Afrobeats to a mainstream audience worldwide. The silver certification of “Bandana” is a win not just for Fireboy DML and Asake but also for Nigeria’s music industry, highlighting Afrobeats’ expanding global reach and the growing potential for Nigerian artists on the international stage.
