Manchester United has officially announced Ruben Amorim as their new manager. In a statement released on Friday, the club confirmed that Amorim will continue with Sporting Lisbon until November 11, meaning his first match in charge will be a Premier League away game against Ipswich Town.
The 39-year-old has signed a contract that runs until June 2027, with the option to extend for an additional year. To secure his early release from a 30-day notice period, United has paid Sporting Lisbon an additional €1 million (£840,000) on top of his €10 million (£8.4 million) exit clause.
Amorim takes over from Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed from his position on Monday. In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager until Amorim officially assumes his role. United's next match is a home fixture against Chelsea on Sunday.
