Ten bodies have been recovered from the rubble of a collapsed-story building in the Jegede area of Olunloyo, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. Several others have also been reported injured in the incident, which occurred on Thursday.
Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, stated that the agency received a distress call around 2 a.m. from residents reporting the building collapse, which trapped many people beneath the debris. "The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a distressed call around 2 a.m. this morning regarding the collapse at Jegede, Olunloyo area, Ibadan. We have recovered ten bodies from the debris, while seven individuals were rescued alive. Rescue operations are still ongoing," he reported.
The police have also confirmed the incident, stating that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent looting and to ensure the safety of other residents in the vicinity. “An investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances that led to the collapse,” the police added.
