October 14, 2024 Oxlade Reveals Experience of Racial Abuse in France

Singer Ikuforiji Olaitan, popularly known as Oxlade, recently shared his experience of facing racial abuse in France. Speaking on ‘The Datebizz’ podcast, Oxlade explained that this painful encounter inspired the title of his debut album, Oxlade From Africa.

“I named my album Oxlade From Africa because I was racially abused in France, specifically in Monaco,” he said. “That experience made me realize the existence of African stigma. While we see ourselves as regular human beings in Africa, outside the continent, some people view us as strange or even as monkeys.”

Oxlade, who holds a degree in History and International Relations, also remarked that the names "Africa" and "Nigeria" carry derogatory connotations.
