The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into bribery allegations made against some EFCC officers by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
In a video shared by blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky, who is an ex-convict, accused certain unnamed EFCC officers of collecting ₦15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges against him.
On Tuesday, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale released a statement confirming that the commission's leadership has formed a special investigative team to look into the allegations.
“To this end, the Commission invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to appear at its Lagos Directorate to assist in the investigation of the alleged bribery,” the statement read.
The EFCC reassured the public that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated, with the findings made public upon conclusion.
It is worth noting that Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison in April for violating Nigerian currency laws, following his conviction for abusing the naira.
