Super Falcons forward Ifeoma Onumonu has signed with French D1 Arkema women's team, Montpellier. Onumonu joins La Paillade from NWSL side Utah Royals, making her the first Nigerian player to sign for the club.
The 30-year-old forward will also be experiencing club football outside the United States for the first time in her career.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Onumonu expressed her excitement: “I am very happy to be here today. I’m eager to get to know my new club and this new environment. I needed a change, having spent my entire career in the USA, and I always had a desire to explore European football. When this opportunity came with Montpellier, I didn’t hesitate.”
Montpellier's president, Laurent Nicollin, welcomed Onumonu to the team, saying, “I’m delighted that Ifeoma has joined us to strengthen our attack. I hope she quickly adapts to her new surroundings and brings a lot to the team.”
