Telecom giant MTN has closed all its stores and service centers across Nigeria following widespread outrage from subscribers whose lines were barred on Sunday.
In a viral video on social media, a mob is seen destroying a barricade fence outside an MTN office. The video shows a large crowd of angry subscribers vandalizing the company's office in the FESTAC Town area of Lagos State, reacting to the network blocking their lines due to mismatches between their National Identification Number and SIM registration.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, responded to the video on X.com, stating that the DPO of FESTAC and his team had successfully restored peace at the scene, adding, "This should not be the way to go!"
In response to the incident, MTN announced on Tuesday that it would be shutting its shops nationwide.
