At least three people have been confirmed dead after a building collapsed at 13 Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos State. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) are currently conducting rescue operations at the scene. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, confirmed the incident, stating that two people were rescued alive from the rubble.
"Three adult males were recovered dead, and two male adults were rescued alive. One adult male trapped under the rubble was also rescued alive by LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire Service," Oke-Osanyitolu reported. "All six men were site workers. They are receiving pre-hospital care on location while SEHMU has been contacted for the remains of the three fatalities."
This collapse is part of a troubling series of building failures in Lagos State and other parts of Nigeria.
