Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested Hashiru Baku, the mastermind behind the murder of Brigadier General Harold Udokwere. Udokwere, the National Chairman and retired member of the Nigerian Armed Forces was killed by armed robbers who invaded his residence on June 22, 2024, stealing his gun in the process.
On June 24, 2024, the police arrested and paraded Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu in connection with the crime. Addressing journalists on Monday while parading the suspects, FCT Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, revealed that Baku was apprehended in Kano State while attempting to flee the country. Igweh noted that Baku was an escapee from the Kuje Correctional Centre.
"I showed you the four killers, kidnappers, and robbers who killed Brigadier General Harold Udokwere, retired. Today, I present the organiser of the killing and the robbery," Igweh stated. "We have recovered the general’s gun, his wristwatch, and his wife's jewellery, which were stolen from their home. The organiser is here and has been arrested. He was in prison and escaped during the Kuje Correctional Centre attack."
Igweh added, "Instead of repenting, he continued with more audacity. We arrested him in Kano where he was trying to leave the country. We also recovered drugs from his residence, which he used to stay high."
