Reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, declared himself an unofficial member of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday. Although he remains a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he acknowledged that he has not yet severed ties with the party.

Shaibu made these remarks during an appearance on a monitored program, explaining his support for the APC governorship candidate in Edo State, Monday Okpebholo. He stated that he no longer aligns with the PDP. "In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. The constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party," Shaibu said.

Recently, Shaibu donated campaign vehicles to Okpebholo, amidst his ongoing conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which led to his impeachment as deputy governor. However, an Abuja Federal High Court reinstated Shaibu as deputy governor on Thursday.
