President Bola Tinubu has approved an extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, for an additional six months, continuing until the end of the year.

The President made this announcement during his speech at the inauguration of Abuja Metro Rail's commencement of operations on Wednesday. Initially, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had announced two months of free train rides to alleviate commuting challenges for residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

However, President Tinubu urged for an extension of the free rides, aiming to provide hope and joy to the people of the FCT. "Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you say two months of free rides. I would like to ask you to extend it until the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” Tinubu stated.
