As the eagerly-awaited showdown between Nigeria and South Africa looms for a coveted spot in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the Super Falcons camp kicks off on Sunday with a notable absence.
The Nigeria Football Federation reveals that Asisat Oshoala won't join until Thursday.Rasheedat Ajibade, the Captain and Atletico Madrid forward, will lead the charge as the team gears up for the clash against Banyana Banyana. Both teams, considered the top women's football teams in Africa, will engage in a two-legged battle for one of the two Olympic slots.

The first leg is set for Friday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, with the return leg scheduled at the Loftus Versfeld arena in Pretoria five days later. Ajibade, renowned for her prowess, alongside home-based goalkeeper Linda Jiwuaku and defender Jumoke Alani, are among the early arrivals.Newcomer Shukurat Oladipo, veteran goalkeeper Tochukwu Oluehi, Japan-based Chidinma Okeke, and Spain-based forward Gift Monday are expected to join the camp on Monday. The remainder of the squad will arrive by Tuesday, with Oshoala, based in the USA, arriving last on Thursday.South Africa's delegation, including 24 players, is set to arrive in Abuja on Monday evening.

The Falcons are determined to break their streak of not defeating Banyana Banyana in regular time, especially after South Africa claimed the Women Africa Cup of Nations trophy last year.Nigeria will rely on goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Osinachi Ohale and Michelle Alozie, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde and Christy Ucheibe, alongside forwards Esther Okoronkwo and Uchenna Kanu, among others, to secure victory in this crucial fixture.
