Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State announced on Thursday that the eagerly awaited construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge is set to commence in the first quarter of this year, specifically "by the end of March or April."
The governor revealed this information during his keynote address at the Lagos West Senatorial District Town Hall Meeting held at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the bridge's construction would unfold in phases, ensuring adequate compensation would be provided to landlords and tenants affected by the demolition of structures during the project. He acknowledged the extensive groundwork on the bridge but pointed out the need for innovative financing solutions for such a significant undertaking.
"We’ve done extensive work on the bridge. But we are at the crossroads of where to get the real financing for that kind of project. We’ll need to be very, very creative," he stated. The governor further committed to breaking ground for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge within the first quarter, indicating a tangible commencement by the end of March or April.
