December 29, 2023 Two Siblings Drown Celebrating Christmas At Lagos Beach

A tragedy struck on Christmas Day at Ibeshe Beach in the Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State, as 26-year-old Femi Adegboyega and his 23-year-old sibling, Ibukun Adegboyega, drowned while enjoying a swim. The incident occurred around 6:00 pm.

The siblings, who were residents of FESTAC Town, were accompanied by friends for a leisurely swim before the unfortunate event took place. Seun, an eyewitness who had been with them before the incident, expressed disbelief, saying, "We were all swimming together on the beach. I can't comprehend how it happened because we were together, and suddenly, they both drowned. It's heartbreaking for their parents, as they are brothers. I also feel terrible that we couldn't do anything to help."

Despite the efforts of friends and local divers at the beach to rescue the siblings, their attempts proved futile. Femi, another eyewitness, shared, "Despite the rigorous efforts of friends and local divers at Ibeshe Beach, they couldn't rescue them. The divers searched extensively, but their bodies have not been found. We swam for a long time, but it was in vain. I believe their bodies will be recovered soon. We promptly notified the police to prevent any escalation. My prayers go out to their families, and I hope everything will be resolved."

Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and revealed that divers had been engaged to locate the bodies. He assured that an investigation was underway, and the family of the deceased had been notified. Hundeyin stated, "Divers have been employed to locate the bodies, and the family of the deceased is already informed. The investigation is ongoing."
