In a recent operation, police operatives in Lagos State have apprehended four individuals accused of robbing road users in traffic around the Ojota area. The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this development in a statement on Tuesday.
Hundeyin explained that the arrests were made based on information from a vigilant victim who promptly alerted the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). The RRS swiftly took action, tracking and arresting three suspects on Sunday, with the fourth apprehended on Monday.
The statement issued by Hundeyin stated, "Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad on Christmas Eve arrested four suspected traffic robbers and recovered three android phones and an ATM card while on patrol at the MKO Abiola’s Garden, Ojota, Lagos."
The suspects were identified as Wasiu Olawale (23), a released ex-convict; Adebayo Olatunbosun (20); Wale John (28); and Uche Ugwu (25), identified as the gang leader.
The diligent efforts of the police led to the recovery of three Android phones and an ATM card during the arrests. Hundeyin disclosed that victims whom the suspects had allegedly robbed had come forward to identify them. The suspects are currently cooperating with the RRS in ongoing investigations.
Hundeyin stated, "Five victims have reported at the RRS Headquarters where they have positively identified the suspects. The suspects are currently assisting the squad in its investigations. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed." The police are committed to ensuring justice, and the suspects will face legal consequences once the investigation concludes.
