Eleven people have died in a fatal motor vehicle accident along the Maiyama/Koko Road in Kebbi State.
According to Kebbi State police spokesman Nafiu Abubakar, the accident involved a DAF trailer with registration number SKK837X driven by a yet-to-be-identified driver travelling from Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto to Niger State.
The vehicle was carrying 65 passengers—all males—from Sokoto State, bags of onions and beans, and six motorcycles.
Giving a breakdown of the incident, Abubakar said that on reaching a point near Dada village, Koko/Besse LGA, the driver lost control of the vehicle as the truck head suddenly broke off from the body.
He said consequently, the truck swerved into the bush, and upon evacuation to General Hospital Koko, 11 were confirmed dead, while the injured received treatment.
Regarding the incident, Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Chris Aimionowane, warned all drivers plying along the highways to avoid overloading and overspeeding to prevent future reoccurrences.
